Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has visited the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania to rally support for his country amid renewed aerial attacks from Russia nearly two years after Moscow's invasion.

During the visit, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs announced a new military aid package including howitzers, ammunition and anti-tank weapons, as well as two upcoming agreements with Ukraine.

“Today I have briefed the President of Ukraine on the upcoming assistance package, including howitzers, 155mm ammunition, anti-tank weapons, missiles, grenades, helicopters, drones, communication devices, generators, and equipment,” Rinkēvičs said at a joint press conference with Zelenskiy on January 11.

Rinkēvičs also mentioned that the two countries’ prime ministers will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation in the military sphere and an Intergovernmental Agreement on assistance to Ukraine.

“The Saeima voted to allocate more than EUR 500 million for the reconstruction program within the next three years. This program will focus on the Chernihiv region,” the Latvian president went on saying.

This marked the third stage of Zelenskiy’s visit to the Baltic region. Earlier, he paid visits to Lithuania on January 10 and to Estonia on January 11. During the visit to Lithuania, Zelenskiy pledged that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not achieve his goals in Ukraine. Ukraine was "sorely lacking" modern air-defence systems as Russia continues its full-fledged invasion for two years now.
