Ukraine on Saturday accused Russia of committing a war crime after the strike on civilian infrastructure, including on a hospital, in its second largest city Kharkiv. Two people were killed and 25 others were injured during the attack on a military hospital, shopping centre, apartment blocks and other targets on late Saturday, local official and Ukrainian military said.

The General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces accused Russia of violation the international law and committing a “war crime”.

“The deliberate and targeted shelling of a Ukrainian medical facility by the Russian army has added to the long list of vile and cynical crimes committed by Russia since the beginning of its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine,” the General Staff said on Facebook.

“War crimes have no statute of limitations. The relevant evidence will be submitted to the international criminal justice authorities.”

Across the border, the Russian Defence Ministry accused Ukraine of striking Russian energy facilities in the past 24 hours despite the deal to halt attacks on energy facilities. The ministry said power grids were damaged in border Belgorod region where 9,000 residents were left without power supply.

The attacks happened as Trump administration pushes for an end to the three-year war. Russia and Ukraine agreed to a US-brokered moratorium last month. However, Trump’s proposal for a 30-day all-out ceasefire along the entire frontline was rejected by the Kremlin, while Kyiv has accused Moscow of delaying negotiations with no real intention of stopping its offensive.
