- 25 March, 16:49
Hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated against Hamas in northern Gaza on Tuesday, demanding the end of the war with Israel in the largest rally since the militant group’s attack on Israel in October 2023.
Marching through the streets of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, around thousand people, mostly men, chanted “For god’s sake, Hamas out,” “Hamas terrorists” and “We want an end to the war.” Some protesters were seen carrying slogans including “Stop the war” and “We want to live in peace”.
The protests took place in front of the Indonesian hospital in the northern part of the Gaza strip. The rally came a week after Israel resumed its intense air strikes on Gaza after two months of a truce that ended the hostilities that started on October 7, 2023 with Hamas launching cross-border attack on Israel and killing 1,218 people.
It’s yet to be seen whether the anti-Hamas rallies will spill over to other parts of Gaza whose residents are exhausted after a year and a half of conflict. At least 792 Palestinians have been killed after Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza recently, according to the health ministry. Hamas has been in power in Gaza since 2007.
