Ukrainian forces have killed a Russian Hero and decorated major during the fighting in Russia’s border Kursk region, local media reported on Friday.

Major Marat Tybilov, aka “Talib”, was Hero of Russia and decorated by President Vladimir Putin last month for his contribution to Russia’s three years of war in Ukraine. He was awarded two Orders of Courage in 2022 after the start of full-fledged invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian Defence Ministry also credited Tybilov for thwarting Ukrainian troops’ incursion attempt in the area of Berdin in Kursk region on January 5. The ministry revealed that the Ukrainian attack was carried out by an assault group consisting of two tanks, a roadblock vehicle, and 12 armored combat vehicles with troops. Both of the tanks, the roadblock vehicle, and seven armored combat vehicles were destroyed by Russian troops, the ministry reported.

Ukrainian Telegram channels celebrated Tybilov’s killing, praising Ukrainian troops for killing senior Russian military official even while being encircled in Kursk region.

Russia has bolstered defences in its border Kursk region in an attempt to return lands capture by Ukraine after Kyiv’s large-scale cross-border incursion last year.
