Ukraine’s HIMAR strike destroys four helicopters in Russia’s border region
- 26 March, 08:10
Four Russian helicopters were destroyed as Ukraine launched a long-range HIMARS missile strike at Russia’s southwestern Belgorod region, the military branch reported on March 24.
Two Russian Ka-52 and two Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed during the operation carried out by Ukraine’s special operations forces in cooperation with the Defence Ministry’s military intelligence, known as HUR. "Once again, Russia thought deep rear positions were unattainable. We proved that nothing is out of reach for Ukraine's Special Operations Forces," the unit said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Ka-52 "Alligator" is designed for reconnaissance and precision strikes, while the Mi-8 serves as a versatile transport and assault helicopter. Both have been actively used in Russia's war against Ukraine
Southwestern Belgorod region is another Russian region where Ukraine has mounted its attacks following the surprise incursion into Kursk in August last year and captured swathes of lands in the Russian territory. Russia has repeatedly accused Ukraine of striking its Belgorod region since the start of the full-fledged invasion three years ago. Russia’s Defense Ministry on March 18 said it thwarted a major Ukrainian ground assault on Belgorod region, a claim Ukraine swiftly dismissed as a propaganda effort.
