Ukrainian troops launched a drone attack on Russia’s Feodosia oil terminal in Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula on Thursday.
The attack on Feodosia oil terminal, a key hub for supplying fuel and lubricants to Russian forces across Crimea and southern Ukraine, was followed by strong explosions. The attack prompted local authorities to close a railway crossing near the oil depot on Fedko Street. However, the reason of the closure of the road was not announced.
The oil terminal can store up to 250,000 cubic meters of fuel and is an important logistics point for Russia's southern military operations.
Thursday’s attack came days after another attack on the terminal by soldiers of the 14th separate regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on November 11. Satellite images showed two tankers being hit in the facility.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed on Thursday that its air defenses “destroyed” 17 drones over the Black Sea and seven more over Crimea during the night. The attack is part of Ukraine’s efforts to disrupt the production of Russia’s oil products that fund the Kremlin’s nearly four-year war of invasion in Ukraine. Earlier, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy said nearly 20 percent of Russia’s oil production capacity was destroyed as a result of Ukraine’s long-range missile and drone attacks.
