US Vice President JD Vance will pay an official visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan in February, moths after the countries signed a US-brokered peace deal to end four decades of war.
"In February, Vice President Vance will travel to both Countries to build on our Peace efforts, and advance the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP)," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. The TRIPP rout that Trump referred to, is a railway that will connect Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave via southern Armenia. It will be operated and developed by a US consortium for 99 years under Armenia’s sovereignty. The opening of the TRIPP is part of the peace declaration signed in the White House.
Trump thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for signing the peace declaration in the White House on August 8.
Trump often prides himself in resolving the decades-long conflict between Baku and Yerevan. During the signing ceremony of the “Board of Peace” Charter in Davos, Switzerland last week, he again listed the conflicts that, that he said he resolved, mentioning the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, alongside Gaza war, the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, Pakistan-India. It should be noted that both Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders signed the “Board of Peace” Charter in Davos last week.
