Three killed as Russia bombed Ukraine for nearly 10 hours in a large-scale attack

Russia launched its deadliest air assault in a month across Ukraine, killing three people and injuring 37 others, Ukrainian authorities reported on Saturday.

Russia shot dozens of ballistic cruise missiles and 500 drones at civilian areas and critical infrastructure, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Writing on X, the minister accused the Kremlin of continuing to “kill and destroy” as the world is discussing peace plans to end the nearly four-year-war.   

Kyiv’s mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the western part of the capital was left without electricity due to the attack, adding that power workers would be working to restore supply. Earlier, head of Kyiv military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said that air defence were responding to Russian drones over the capital and the outskirt. Explosions were heard in the city around midnight and continued through the night, with the air alert lasting more than nine hours.

The deadly air assault came ahead of a second round of peace talks as the renewed US-led efforts to reach a peace deal gains momentum. The attack triggered strong reaction from the international community. The EU’s Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova said she is “disgusted and shocked” by the attacks and questioned whether Russia was serious about  Russia’s  Moscow is serious about engaging in peace negotiations aimed at ending the war.
