In daring operation, Ukrainian partisans torch Russian communication tower near Moscow

Ukraine’s Atesh partisan group on Sunday claimed burning down a communication tower vital for Russian military’s air defence in Moscow region.

“Our agents carried out a successful sabotage operation in the Moscow region, striking an element of the air defense system of the 5th Air Defense Division, part of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces,” the underground group said in a statement published on its official Telegram channel.

The group explained that the destruction of the communication tower undermines Russia’s air defences, disrupts coordination and control, which leads to “the loss of intelligence data makes the entire system less effective and vulnerable.”

The tower was reportedly used as the unit’s communications and command hub, enabling secure radio relay links for the swift transmission of information and orders between headquarters and subordinate air defense units. It also contained electronic reconnaissance and signal-interception systems, which were essential for intelligence gathering and maintaining overall situational awareness in the area.

Furthermore, Atesh partisans stressed that Russia’s rear “is not a safe zone”. Ukraine has intensified strikes in occupied parts of Ukraine as well as deep in Russia. In 2025, Ukraine’s partisan movement extend its operations far beyond Ukrainian territory and evolved into a coordinated network operation not only in Ukraine but in Russian soil as well. The partisan group operates in close coordination with Ukraine’s security and defence forces.
