Two Russian air defence assets destroyed in eastern Ukraine

Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, USF, have destroyed two Russian air defence assets in Mariupol city in eastern Donetsk region.

The hit targets are the Imbir radar station, known as 9S19M air surveillance and acquisition radar system used for anti-ballistic missile defence, as well as a launcher-loader self-propelled unit of the S-300V surface-to-air missile system.

The USF commander Robert Brovdi, with the call-name of “Madyar” shared video footage of the operation in Facebook with a corresponding text providing details of the operation. In his words, to destroy the Russian assets, the soldiers used Ukrainian-made FP-2 strike drones equipped with a 100-kilogram warhead. Brovdi noted that the Imbir radar is an advanced, three-dimensional, self-propelled radar system integrated into the S-300V surface-to-air missile complex. It is built to identify cruise missiles and other aerodynamic threats at distances of up to 175 kilometers. The system is both scarce and costly, with only about 200 units ever manufactured.

He also explained that the 9A84 launcher-loader vehicle within the S-300V system is a key high-capability element of the opposing side’s air defense network. Missiles fired from this platform can engage targets at ranges reaching 100 kilometers.

Sunday’s operation came after the USF struck a Russian Pantsir-S1 system on the territory of Azovstal stell plant in Mariupol earlier this week.
