Ukraine launched an overnight drone attack on a Russian plant that manufactures Iskander-M, Oreshnik-M and Topol-M missile systems on Saturday.
The targeted facility is Votkinsk Plant in Udmurt Republic deep in Russia and injured 11 people, three of them hospitalized. Regional governor Alexander Brechalov confirmed that “One of the republic’s facilities was attacked by drones” launched by Kyiv, without naming the hit site or giving further details. Russia’s aviation authority Rosaviatsia reported temporary suspensions at a number of airports, as well as in capital Izhevsk.
Russia’s Asta Telegram channel reported that the attack targeted the major state defense enterprise Votkinsk Machine Building Plant.
There have been no comments from Ukrainian authorities about the incident. Located 1,400 kilometers from Ukraine border, Votkinsk Plant manufacturing ballistic missiles, often used in air strikes against Ukraine, as well as nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Some Telegram channels claimed the facility was hit with Flamingo long-range strategic subsonic cruise missile. With a range of 3,000 kilometers, the cruise missile was developed by Ukraine’s Fire Point company. Flamingos are currently equipped with bunker-busting warheads that can penetrate thick concrete of up to 10 meters
It should be noted that Votkinsk Plant is under sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, Australia, Japan and Ukraine.
