Crimea rocked by explosions as strategic military facilities are hit

Ukrainian drones struck two Russian patrol ships in annexed Crimea Peninsula where Russia maintains extensive naval base.

Two Project 22460 “Okhotnik” border patrol ships were struck in Inkerman Bay on the night leading to February 21, local Telegram news channels reported. In a separate attack on the same day, two Be-12 aircraft were struck on the territory of the Yevpatoria Aviation Repair Plant, in Yevpatoria city in the Peninsula. The same two aircraft were undergoing repairs at the plant after being struck by the Ukrainian Main Directorate Intelligence’s elit “Ghosts” unit on September 21.

Earlier on Friday, Telegram channels reported explosions near the Belbek military airfield outside Crimea’s Sebastopol city. Explosions were also reported near the Saki airfield in Novofedorivka. Russia’s Defense Ministry later claimed to have shot down several drones over Crimea and the Black Sea. Ukrainian forces have scale up air strikes on Rusian targets that include amphibious landing ships, patrol vessels, and support ships in Crimea. These attacks steadily degraded Russia’s capacity to project power from Crimean bases and contributed to the relocation of parts of the fleet farther east, including to Novorossiysk on the Russian mainland. The strikes have forced Russia to reinforce air defences of the peninsula.
