Ukrainian troops have regained control over a number of settlements in the border of southeastern Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defence Forces Vladyslav Voloshyn told local media on Saturday.
"Since the start of the operation in late January 2026, control has been restored over an area of more than 300 square kilometers. Conrol has been restored, including clearing enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, over a number of settlements on the administrative border of the Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions," Voloshyn said. The military official explained that while the active phase of the operation is still ongoing, it was premature to talk about its final results.
Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that nearly 50 combat clashes occur daily in the Huliaipole and Oleksandrivka directions. North of Huliaipole, and east of Sviatopetrivka and Staroukrainka, Ukrainian assault units are continuing operations to eliminate Rusisan forces and prevent them from advancing toward the Haichur River. Voloshyn added that Russian forces are currently concentrating their attacks south of Huliaipole in the direction of Zaliznychne but have made no advances, as Ukrainian troops are actively counterattacking.
Earlier, the commander of the 1st Separate Assault Regiment named after Dmytro Kotsiubailo reported unspecified “certain successes” by Ukrainian forces in the Huliaipole direction, noting that details could not yet be disclosed due to the ongoing operation. He also said that information circulating on Russian Telegram channels about the situation in this area largely reflects reality.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that despite the Kremlin’s demands during negotiations, Ukrainian forces continue to make progress in liberating territories in the southern sectors of the front.
