Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zekenskiy has predicted that Russia will expand its war in Ukraine by attacking another European country.
“Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. He will open up some other direction. Nobody knows where. He wants that,” Zelenskiky said following his meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of UN General Assembly summit on Tuesday. “Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. Commenting on drone incursion in Poland, Romania, Denmark and Russian fighter jets’ entry into Estonia’s airspace in the past two weeks, the Ukrainian leader said Moscow was checking NATO’s preparedness and resolve. He suggested that EU governments were struggling to handle this new threat from Russia. Earlier this week, Ukraine intercepted 92 drones flying towards neighbouring Poland – 19 of these drones breached Poland’s airspace and several of them were downed by NATO fighter jets.
“I am not comparing our forces. We are at war and they [Poland] are not. We are ready to share our experience,” Zelenskiy noted. Zelenskyy added that representatives from several countries would travel to Ukraine to receive “practical training” on repelling Russian drones.
Zelenskyy’s remarks follow what he said were “very nice” talks with Trump on the sidelines of the UN general assembly. After the meeting, the US president said he believed Ukraine could retake territories captured by Russia since February 2022 with the support of NATO and the EU.
