Rare Russian mobile relay station is destroyed in Luhansk

Ukrainian troops have destroyed a mobile R-416G-MS radio relay station belonging to the Russian army in eastern Luhansk region, the State Border Service of Ukraine said on March 26.

The operation to destroy R-416G-MS – an equipment that provides long-range digital communication between Russian units in the frontline and those in command posts – was carried out by the Phoenix unit of Ukraine’s State Border Service. With an estimated cost of around $600,000 per unit, R-416G-MS was first introduced in 2018. The unit is mounted on KamAz truck and provides communication between units at a distance of nearly 40 kilometers. The unit has a range of 40 kilometers and an antenna with a length of 30 meters. The first confirmed case of R-416G-MS being destroyed was recorded in June 2024.

Earlier on Tuesday, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported destroying a number Russian defence units in Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula. Among those was the destruction of a Bastion missile launcher, a significant element in Russia’s Black Sea control infrastructure. The Bastion system is a shore-based missile platform employed by Russia to secure access routes to the Black Sea, with the capability to strike naval targets far from the coastline.

In a separate development, Ukrainian forces also targeted critical Russian energy facilities within Russia itself, including an oil refinery and an oil terminal reportedly used to support occupying troops.

Beyond operations in Crimea, Ukrainian defense units launched a series of strikes across multiple locations in eastern and southern parts of the country. Targets included concentrations of enemy personnel near Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region, Khoroshe in the Luhansk region, and Novozlatopil in Zaporizhzhia. In addition, a repair facility in Novozlatopil and a drone command post in the Velyka Novosilka area were also hit.

Details regarding casualties and the extent of the damage are still being clarified. Ukraine’s General Staff noted that such operations will continue, with efforts focused on hitting military assets both in occupied Ukrainian territories and within Russia itself.

Previously, Ukrainian forces targeted key elements of Russia’s energy infrastructure, including the Transneft Port Primorsk oil terminal and the Bashneft Ufaneftekhim refinery. Prior to that, they also struck the Saratov oil refinery, a facility linked to supplying the Russian military.
