Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged Western allies to cut Russia's oil and gas revenues that help funding Moscow was against his country after Moscow launched a 12-hour air raid across Ukraine over the weekend.
“The time for decisive action is long overdue, and we count on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7 and the G20," Zelenskiy posted on Telegram app. While the United Nations was holding general assembly sessions, Russia had “literally used every day, every hour, to strike at Ukraine”, he said in his nightly video address. The Ukrainian leader said Russia had “literally used every day, every hour, to strike at Ukraine" while the United Nations was holding general assembly sessions.
Zelenskiy's remarks follow Russia's 12-hour bombardment of Ukraine, involving hundreds of drones and missiles, including a ballistic missile. Zelenskiy described the air strike "vile and cowardly".
Kyiv has repeatedly urged the EU and NATO to stop purchasing Russia's energy resources whose revenues are funnelled to Moscow's war in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump made similar calls during his address to the UN General Assembly. Trump berated the EU for continuing the purchase of Russian and oil gas while helping Ukraine fight Kremlin. However, Washington has withheld from imposing punitive sanctions on Russia.
