Ukraine launched an overnight drone attack on one of Russia's largest oil ports in the Black Sea, setting ablaze one terminal and one tanker ablaze.
The attack on the port city of Tuapse also damaged two foreign civilian ships, the emergency operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region said in a statement. There were no casualties among the crews of the ships and the fires were extinguished, the operational headquarters said, adding that the buildings and infrastructure of the terminal" had been damaged.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed its forces struck the Tuapse oil refinery that is controlled by Russia's biggest oil company Rosneft. A source within Ukraine's Security Service, SBU, said five drone strikes the oil terminal had damaged an oil tanker, a nearby port building and leading infrastructure.
Video footage of the attack shows the terminal and terminal in fire. Being one of Russia's largest oil refineries in the Black Sea, the facility in Tuapse has a processing capacity of 240,000 barrels of oil per day and produces fuel oil, naphtha, vacuum gasoil and high-sulphur diesel. The facility was struck by Ukrainian drones several times this year.
Sunday's attack is part of Ukraine's efforts to disrupt Russia's funding of its war machine with its oil income. Ukraine has launched relentless attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in the past months and disrupted around 30 percent of Russia's oil processing capacity.
