Ukrainian forces launched fresh strikes on Russia’s military and energy facilities deep in Russia and in annexed Crimea, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Monday.
The Ukrainian Defence Forces struck Russia’s largest manufacturer of explosives, the Sverdlov Plant in Dzerzhinsk in Nizhny Novgorod Region on the night leading to October 6, The General Staff reported. Numerous fires and explosives were reported at the site. Located 900 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, the Sverdlov Plant manufactures various types of munitions, including aerial and artillery shells, aerial, guided bombs, munitions for engineering troops, etc. Residents reported up to 30 blasts within one hour after the facility was hit at midnight. Gleb Nikitin, the governor of Dzerzhinsk said air defence systems intercepted nearly twenty drones near the Dzerzhinsk industrial zone. The debris from the drones caused fired, damaged multiple buildings and injured one person. However, the facility was not damaged during the attack. This was not the first attack on Sverdlov plant. The munitions producing facility came under drone attack in April this year, with its pipelines and worships sustaining significant damage.
Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula was also targeted by Ukraine’s overnight attacks onMonday. The Marine Oil Terminal in Feodosia, the key oil and petroleum trans-shipment complex in the peninsula was also targeted by Ukrainain drones. Also attacked was an ammunition depot of a separate logistics battalion of the 18th Combined Arms Army of Russia in Crimea, the General Staff revealed. The agency pledged to “take measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian troops and force Russia to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine.”
Ukraine’s relentless air raids have disabled over forty percent of Russia’s oil refining capacity, causing spikes in energy prices and nationwide shortages of fuel and diesel.
