Ukraine refuses Russian reports of capture of strategic town in Zaporizhzhia

Ukraine has denied reports of Russia’s capture of strategic town of Dobropillia in southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.

In a statement realeased on December 4, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces said its forces are still in control of Dobropillia where Russian troops have been pushed back.

The General Staff it has repelled an attack by a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group, destroying five of Russian soldiers who were advancing towards Dobropillia. It said two of the killed Russian soldiers had been taksed by their commanders to raise a Russian flag in the area.  Furthermore, the General Staff warned that Russian propaganda was “very actively spreading fakes about Russian troops supposedly controlling Dobropillia near Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia region, stressing that “these information attacks by the invaders do not correspond to reality.”

The General Staff released a video footage showing Ukrainian soldiers completing their combat mission and raising a Ukrainian flag in Dobropillia. Earlier, the Ukrainain media reported, citing the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated areas, Ukrainian units were actively blocking Russian army units’ attempts to build up assault infantry groups and advance around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad towns in eatern Doentsk region where Russia has been launching relentless attacks.
