Ukraine’s intelligence forces have struck Russian-annexed Crimea again, shooting Russian Mi-8 helicopters and Nebo-U radar systems amid the intensified attacks on the peninsula.
Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, known as HUR, claimed on Sunday that in struck three Russia M-8 helicopters and an “expensive” 55Zh6U ‘Nebo-U’ radar” system, while also sharing the drone footage of the moment of the strike, captured by the drone’s thermal cameras. The exact time and the location of the attack has not been publicized.
In recent months, Ukraine has scaled up attacks on Russian-held Ukrainian territories and deep on Russian territory, targeting Kremlin’s strategic and energy facilities. On Saturday, Russian drones hit Saratov oil refinery for the second time this week. Located 600 km from the Ukraine frontline, Saratov is a major refinery in Russia and produces more than 20 types of petroleum products. Earlier, on September 13-14, Ukrainian special forces staged a sabotage on railway lines in Russia’s Oryol and Leningrad regions, derailing fuel trains and disrupting major supply routes for Russian troops.
In early September, HUR reported that it had destroyed a 48Ya6-K1 “Podlet” radar and an RLM-M module of the 55Zh6M “Nebo-M” system, along with additional Mi-8 helicopters and a tugboat previously targeted earlier in the month.
In his address on September 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine’s air strikes on Russia’s oil facilities were “effective” and underlined the attack on Druzhba pipeline that halted Russia’s oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.
