Ukraine and the US are working on a "mega deal" involving the purchase of drones and weapons, Ukrainain President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Saturday. The deal will involve Kyiv's purchase of US weapons worth about 90 billion USD as well as export of domestically made Ukrainain drones to Washington, Zelenskiy said in a press conference.
"We have discussed the main things, agreed with the US president, nowe we are moving on to practical implementation," Zelenskiy said, adding that Ukrainian officials will visit the US in September or October for talks.
The Ukrainain leader stressed that his government prepared the list of US weapons that it wants to purchase. Furthermore, Ukrainian president stated that he had pressed the US President Donald Trump with "a specific vision for possible actions" in response to Russia's behaviour. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Zelenskiy said, "Alongside the major arms agrement, which we refer to as the mega deal, we also talked about a potential drone deal. Technical teams are already beginning work on this agreement."
Zelenskiy's remarks follow his successful meeting with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit this week. According to media reports, durings the meeting, Zelenskiy asked Trump to purchase Tomahawk cruise missiles with the range of up to 2,500 km and a 450-kg warhead.
