Ukraine and Russia on Thursday exchanged 185 prisoners of war in the next round of prisoner swap on Thursday. The exchanged PoWs include servicemen and civilians.
Announcing the return of Ukrainian PoWs, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote on X that 185 servicemen were returned to Ukraine, along with 20 civilians. “Everyone will definitely receive all the support they need. We thank everyone who is making these exchanges possible,” Zelenskiy said.
He stressed that more than 7,000 Ukrainians have returned since the start of Russia’s full-fledged invasion in February 2022.
The Kremlin also confirmed swap, with the Russian Defence Ministry saying in a statement that “all returned Russian servicemen and civilians will be transported to the Russian Federation for treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities.”The repatriated Russians are now in Belarus.
Ukraine and Russia have so far carried out several rounds of repatriation of fallen soldiers with the PoW swap being the only sphere of cooperation between the two countries.
On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported, with reference to US officials that the White House would provide Kyiv with intelligence for long-range missiles strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
