Two killed in explosion in high-rise building in Ukraine’s Kharkiv

Two people were killed in an explosion of an unknown origin in high-rise residential building in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region on Saturday, local authorities said.

Several people were killed in the explosion that took place at 1.30 AM in a 16-story building in Saltivskyi district that is a densely populated residential area. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on Telegram channel that emergency crews, rescuers, and law enforcement officers are working at the scene of the incident.

In another development on Saturday, A Russian attack on Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv injured several people, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. He noted that hat the Russian attack struck a critical infrastructure facility.

 Being the second-largest city in northeastern Ukraine, Kharkiv is around 30 kilometres from the Russian border and has frequently come under missile and drone attacks start of Russia’s full-fledged invasion in February 2022.
