Two killed as Russia hits a church in eastern Ukraine

Russia launched an FAB-250 aerial bomb on the Iova of Pochayiv Church in Kostyantynivk city in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region on Saturday, local officials said.

"Today, at 10:39 a.m., Russians dropped a FAB-250 bomb with a universal planning and correction module on a church with civilians on the territory,” law enforcement officials said. The explosion took place on the grounds of a church where local residents were located at the time of the attack, the head of the city military administration, Sergei Gorbunov said. Nine private homes were damaged by the blast wave. Two men, aged 49 and 56, were killed in the attack, while four others were injured. Two of the injured men were the father and grandfather of a two-year-old boy who was evacuated to Kramatorsk for medical care, head of the region, Vadym Filashkin, said. The injured civilians were hospitalized in Druzhkivka.

It should be note that compulsory evacuation of families with children from Kostyantynivka was announced in the summer of 2024.

Across the border, Russia claimed shooting down a Ukrinian missile in Belogord region on the evening of October 11. The mayor of Belgorod, Valentin Demidov, stated that the city had restricted the operation of outdoor lighting, allegedly to "reduce the load on power facilities and efficiently distribute electricity among consumers."
