US President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that he had made a decision on Ukraine's request for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, a move that will anger Moscow and is expected to change the course of the war.
“I sort of made a decision, pretty much, if you consider... I think I want to find out what they’re doing with them. You know, where are they sending them? I guess I’d have to ask that question. I think I want to find out what they’re doing with them. I would ask some questions. I’m not looking to escalate that war. I would ask some questions. I'm not looking to escalate that war” Trump told reporters on Monday
Trump reiterated his earlier remarks that the war “should never have started. Would have never started. Such bad judgment was used there, I think on both sides, by the way. The Kremlin and the Zelenskiy administration did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment outside of regular business hours.
If provided to Kyiv, Tomahawks will place Russian capital Moscow within the range of Ukrainian drones. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in a video released on Sunday that if the United States were to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles for long-range attacks inside Russia, it would severely damage or destroy Moscow's relationship with Washington.
