Trump accuses Ukraine of showing “zero gratitude” for US help

US President Donald Trump has criticized the Ukrainian government for showing “zero gratitude” over Washington’s efforts to end the war with Russia.

Commenting in Truth Social platform, Trump wrote on Sunday: “Ukraine leadership has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia. The USA continues to sell massive amounts of weapons to Nato, for distribution to Ukraine… God bless all the lives that have been lost in the human catastrophe!” Trump reiterated his claim that he interited the war and that the warould never have happened had he been a president in 2022, instead of Joe Biden.

Trump’s commets came as his administration is pressing pressure on Ukraine to accept a 28-point peace proposal by Thanksgiving. Hours after Trump’s comments were published, Ukrainain Presidnet Volodymyr Zelenskiy took to X social media platform to condemn Russia as the only ones responsible for the ongoing war. “The crux of the entire diplomatic situation is that it was Russia, and only Russia, that started this war, and it is Russia, and only Russia", Zelenskyy wrote. He blamed Russia for targeting civilian areas, stressing that Russian commanders operate under orders that permit unrestricted brutality that leads to high casualties among civilians. Zelenskiy also accused the Kremlin of abducting Ukrainain children and “re-educating” them to joing the war against their own country.

Furthrmore, Zelenskiy thanked the American people and Presidnet Trump for assistance to Ukraine that includes military deliveries, such as Javelin anti-tank systems.

It should be noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Ukrainian officials in Geneva, Switzerland, over the weekend to move peace talks forward. Commenting on the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation, Rubio told reporters on Sunday that Rubio told reporters "a tremendous amount of progress,” had been made.
