Russia launched massive drone and missile strikes across Ukraine, injuring three people in the early hours of Saturday when the US and Ukrainian officials held talks in Miami in an effort to bring an end to the nearly four-year-war.
The attack targeted power stations and other energy infrastructure, Ukraine’s national energy operator, Ukrenergo. For third year in a row, Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, cutting supplies of heat, light and water ahead of winter months.
Russia’s defence ministry reported that it had intercepted 116 Ukrainian drones over its territory, while some Telegram channels claimed that Ukraine struck an oil refinery in Ryazan region that often comes under Ukraine’s long-range missile and drone attacks. According to the regional governor, a residential building was damaged and debris from drones landed on an “industrial site.” The attack came amid intensified efforts to end the war. Washington has expressed a desire to bring the conflict to an end, but the two sides still appear far from reaching any shared ground. Negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials are scheduled to continue for a third day in Miami on Saturday, following a meeting earlier in the week in Moscow involving Vladimir Putin, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
