Six killed in Russia’s “heinous” attack on Ukraine, Zelenskiy says

Six people were killed and 29 others injured as Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on Kyiv on Friday, causing fires and scattering debris across many regions on Friday, authorities said. Dozens of high rising apartment buildings were destroyed during a wave of attacks that involved 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistics missiles, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Posting on X, Zelenskiy described it as “deliberately calculated attack aimed at causing maximum harm to people and civilian infrastructure”. Among the victims are children aged 7 and 10.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said over 11 multi-storey residential buildings were struck in the attack across several districts of Kyiv. Falling debris caused fire in an open space near a medical facility and inside a residential building  in Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts.

Strikes were also recorded in other parts of Ukraine, according to Air Forces. Officials urged residents to remain in shelters until air raids were lifted. The devastating strikes came as Russia has been making gains in south of Ukraine.
