Russia launches wave of drone attacks on Ukrainian cities

Russian forces have launched a wave of overnight drone attacks on Ukraine, striking infrastructure facilities and killing one civilian.

Ukraine's air force reported that at least 176 drones, including 100 Iranian-made Shaheeds were used in the attacks on Wednesday. Around 150 of these aircraft were shot down or neutralized. The strikes were launched from several Russian regions, including the Russian-held Crimea Peninsula. Some 13 drones struck eight locations.

A 59-year-old man was killed as a drone hit an administrative building in the frontline village of Prykolotne in Kharkiv region. Another drone struck a critical infrastructure in Vinnytsia, triggering fire that was promptly extinguished.

The overnight barrage of drones followed another wave of Russian air raids involving 152 drones and targeting Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia, Kkramatorsk and Kharkiv regions. The Ukrainian air force said it downed some 126 of those drones. Seventeen explosions occurred in Kharkiv causing fire and damaging residential buildings and cars, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. One person was injured in the attack.

The region was hit by 18 drones that struck two districts. The attack on the energy facility caused disruptions to electric-powered trams and trolleybuses in sections of the Kholodnohirsky and Shevchenkivsky districts, prompting the deployment of replacement buses to maintain transportation services.

In the early hours of September 24, the town of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region was also targeted by a drone strike. According to the DSNS, fires broke out at two locations, resulting in the destruction of a residential building, a garage, and several cars, with one person sustaining injuries.

Two more attacks were launched on Kramatrosk in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. The first attack hit an open area near a residential building, shattering windows and balconies, the city council reported. Russia has intensified its relentless attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
