Russian army launched 738 missiles, over 4,670 guided aerial bombs, and up to 19,000 strike drones against Ukraine over the winter, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Sunday.
Posting on Facebook, Zelenskiy revealed that in February alone, Russia fired over 1,720 drones, nearly 1,300 guided aerial bombs and more than one hundred missiles of various types at Ukraine. “But despite everything, Ukrainians made it through this difficult winter, when Russia did not even try to seek justification for its bestial strikes on civilian critical infrastructure,” Zelenskiy stressed.
Explaining that most of the drones fired by Rusia were Iranian-made Shaheed kamikaze drones, Zelenskiy said these are the same UAVs launched by Tehran at the Middle East countries today. “Evil must be confronted in every part of the world. When the United States and other partners show enough determination, even the bloodiest dictators ultimately pay for their crimes,” Zelenkiy stressed.
Russia has been deploying Shaheed drones in it was war in Ukraine since the start of the conflict in February 2022, and later produced them domestically under the name Geran-2. The kamikaze drones have become a central component of Moscow’s long-range strike strategy. In the latest of such attacks, Russia attacked Ukraine with over 100 drones from the directions of the Russian cities of Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Crimean Peninsula on the night leading to March 1.
