Ukraine’s General Staff confirms strike on oil refinery deep in Russia

Ukraine on Saturday struck Russia’s Saratov oil refinery that supplies fuel to the Russian army, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.

The overnight attack damaged a secondary oil processing unit and a vertical steel storage tank. With an annual capacity of about 4.8 million metric tons, Saratov oil refinery processes crude oil and produces fuel and lubricants used by Russia’s armed forces. The attacked was followed by explosions that were captured in videos published by local residents in Saratov region.  “The specified enterprise provides oil refining and production of fuels and lubricants used for the needs of the occupation army. According to preliminary information, the secondary oil processing unit and the RVS-10000 vertical tank were damaged,” the General Staff said in its statement. This was the second oil refinery hit in the Russian territory over the past week. On March 14, a major Russian oil refinery was put on fire following a drone attack in southern Krasnodar region

Meanwhile, overnight on Saturday, drones were also said to have struck the Russian city of Tolyatti, an area known for major industrial facilities such as the Togliattikauchuk and KuibyshevAzot chemical plants.

Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that its air defenses had brought down 283 drones during the night. It later added that an additional 54 drones were intercepted on Saturday morning and throughout the day.

Additionally, a Russian army repair detachment was hit in Khliborobne, located in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Meanwhile, in Paraskoviivka in the occupied Donetsk region, Ukrainian forces carried out a strike on a command-and-observation position belonging to Russian occupation troops.
