Explosions, UAV attack reported in a military position in Chechnya

An explosion occurred in a military position in Chechnya’s capital Groznyy after a reported Ukrainian drone attack on Thursday.

According to Ukraine’s Krimean Wind Telegram channel, a barrack in the military compound belonging to the "Sever-Akhmat”, the 78th Special Purpose Motorized Regiment under the Interior Ministry was hit by Ukrainain UAVs on Thursday. Video of the explosion in the military compound was shared by Telegram channels. There was no official reaction to the reported attack on the military compound. However, Russia’s Rosaviatsiya, Federal Air Transport Agency, suspended operations at airports in Grozny, Makhachkala, Magas, and Vladikavkaz on Thursday morning "to ensure flight safety."

Separately, local Telegram channels reported drone attacks in the village of Borze, where military unit 65384, housing the 291st Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian army is stationed.

Thursday’s strike was the fourth attack on Chechnya since the start of Russia’s war of invasion in Ukraine nearly four years ago. Last December, the barracks of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Forces Regiment attacked twice by Ukrainian drones. Prior to that, in October, a drone strike in Gudermesk region caused a fire on the roof of the Russian Special Forces University, the country's largest training base for mercenaries fighting in Ukraine. Chechnya’s pro-Kremlin’s fighters, known as Kadyrovites, have been fighting alongside Russian army against Ukraine since the start of the war. Moreover, Chechnya is home to a number of Russian military facilities.
