The European Union has approved a €20 million military aid package through the European Peace Facility, further advancing cooperation between the EU and Armenia in the fields of security and defense.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the move highlights the EU’s increasing involvement with Armenia and its dedication to maintaining regional stability.
According to Kallas, the assistance represents another milestone in strengthening EU–Armenia security and defense relations. She noted that the measure underscores the EU’s commitment to bolstering Armenia’s resilience, thereby contributing to peace, security, and stability throughout the wider region.
The Council of the EU approved the measure on January 29. An official statement explained that the funding will be used to enhance the logistical capabilities of Armenia’s armed forces, with a strong focus on civilian protection during emergencies and crisis situations. The support also aims to improve Armenia’s resilience and military interoperability, including readiness for possible participation in international missions and EU-led operations.
This new assistance builds on a 2024 initiative that supplied Armenia with a deployable tent camp. The latest package extends support to the brigade level, bringing total EU assistance to Armenia under the European Peace Facility to €30 million.
The Council emphasized that the aid is part of the EU’s wider partnership with Armenia, based on shared values and designed to foster peace, stability, and prosperity in Armenia and the broader South Caucasus. It also reiterated the EU’s intention to deepen political and economic relations with Yerevan within the framework of the new EU–Armenia Strategic Partnership Agenda.
