Armenia, Germany sign strategic partnership declaration

Armenia and Germany signed a joint declaration on strategic agenda of bilaterial partnership during Armenian Nikol Pashinyan’s official visit to Germany on Tuesday.

Pashinyan wrote about this in his official Facebook page: “We signed a joint declaration with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the strategic agenda of bilateral partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany, and we made statements based on the results of the meeting,” Pashinyan wrote.

The joint declaration outlined the areas in which Gerlan and Yerevan intend to cooperate, including in politics, economics and trade, development and capacity building, and security and defence.

In a joint press briefing held after the signing ceremony, Pashinyan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz offered their comments on the meeting. Describing the meeting as “historic”, Pashinyan said: ‘”n this regard, I have great hope that the favourable environment created in and around Armenia will arouse new interest among German businessmen in investing in our country, as well as in activating cooperation with Armenian businessmen.”

In turn, Merz praised economic relations and the German companies’ increased interest in Armenia. “We must use our potential. For this, framework conditions and peace, rule of law, [and] free competition are necessary”, Merz said. The German Chancellor also highlighted the importance of “close cooperation” during turbulent times. Furthermore, the German leader congratulated Armenia and Azerbaijan on reaching a peace agreement, calling it a “great achievement”. Baku and Yerevan concluded the text of the peace treaty in March 2025 after years of negotiations.
