Two civilians were killed in a Russian drone attack on Dnipro city in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region on the night of February 1.
The attack caused large-scale fire, destroying one house and damaging two others, Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration reported. A separate drone attack on Nikopol region hit the region center, destroying two apartment buildings and four private houses, a farm building, a café, several shops, and a car were destroyed. A gas pipeline and a power line were also targeted in the air strike. No attacks were reported on capital Kyiv as Russia agreed to halt air strikes on the city until February 1 upon US President Donald Trump’s request. The Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on January 30 that Trump made personal request not to strike the capital city for the period of a week in a bid to create favourable condition for the trilateral peace talks between Russia and Ukraine facilitated by the United States, which will be held on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The talks are aimed at ending the nearly four-year-war in Ukraine.
Zelenskiy confirmed on Friday that in all regions, “there were indeed no strikes on energy facilities from Thursday night to Friday”. Ukraine continues to experience its coldest winter in decades, with around million people left without electricity or heating due to relentless missile and drone attacks on the country’s energy grid.
