Three soldiers killed, dozens injured in Russian strike on a training ground in Ukraine

At least three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 18 others injured as Russia struck a military training ground early Wednesday, Ukraine’s ground forces reported.

“The enemy launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the training units of the ground forces” on Tuesday, the army said on Facebook. At least “three servicemen are dead and 18 wounded,” Ukraine’s army said in a statement on Facebook, without specifying the location of the attack. Later on that day, the Russian Defence Ministry specified that the attack took place on Ukrainian army' 169th training centre near Honcharivske in northern Chernihiv region. The ministry released the purported video footage of the attack that captured multiple explosions. The Russian defence ministry claimed 200 Ukrainian troops were killed or injured in the attack. The attack was launched with two Iskander missiles, one armed with multiple submunitions and another with high explosives, the ministry stated.

The attack on Chernihiv training ground followed Russia’s massive missile strike that killed 25 people and inured 100 others across 73 Ukrainian cities on Tuesday morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the attack as “deliberate” and urged more international pressure on Russia. Russia’s large-scale attack came hours after President Donald Trump shortened the deadline for Russia to end the war of face economic punishment in the form of sanctions. Trump set a 50-day deadline for Russia two weeks ago while speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Rutte in the White House. Commenting on Trump’s new deadline, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov stated on Tuesday that Russia would continue its “special operation” in Ukraine. However, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, warned that Trump’s ultimatum was a step towards the war between Russia and the US.
