28 killed Russia’s deadliest air raid on Kyiv in a year

Russia launched a massive air raid on Kiv in the early hours of Tuesday, killing at least 28 people in one of the largest attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the start of the full-fledged war. Over 100 people were injured in the attack that lasted more than nine hours.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry Ihor Klymenko  said the country had been hit by 440 drones and 32 missiles, with a variety of buildings, including residential, critical infrastructure and educational facilities coming under Russian attack. "Rescuers and police officers continue to work at the sites where residential infrastructure was hit. The rescue operation is ongoing at two locations in Kyiv. There are still people trapped under the rubble, so the work will not stop until everyone is found," Klymenko stated.

The attack targeted a total of 27 locations and forcing residents to flee to underground shelters. There were also casualties in Odessa. As part of the strikes, a drone smashed into an apartment block destroying dozens of flats.

Kyiv's mayor shared a Telegram video purportedly showing Russian cluster munitions at an attack site, later declaring Wednesday a day of mourning. Ukraine’s air force reported that 402 drones and 26 missiles were intercepted. Impacts occurred in 10 areas, debris in 34 zones, marking one of Kyiv’s largest attacks in months. Russia has ramped up drone attacks against Ukraine. Since May, the Kremlin has targeted Ukraine with seven largest attacks since the start of the war in February 2022.
