Ukraine launches Shadow Storm strike at missile control system in Russia’s Bryansk

Ukraine forces struck Kremniy El plant linked to Russia’s defence industry in Bryansk region, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday.

Addressing a media briefing, Zelenskiy said the plant manufactures control systems for all types of missiles of the Russian Federation, adding that Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi had informed him of the strike.

The attack was launched with the use of French-produced Storm Shadow missiles, General Staff o Ukrainian Armed Forces revealed. The agency said significant damage was inflicted to the facility as a result of the attack, noting that the extent of the damage was being assessed.

Kremniy El plant is a major microelectronics manufacturer located around 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The plant manufactures semiconductor components used in missile guidance and control systems. Its products are incorporated into a range of Russian weapons systems, including Pantsir air defense complexes and Iskander missile systems. The Kremniy EL plant concentrates on manufacturing critical components that feed into numerous advanced Russian military technologies. These parts are used in systems including the Pantsir air defense system, Iskander ballistic missile systems, radar networks, electronic warfare equipment, and several types of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The facility has been hit multiple time since the start of Russia’s full-fledged invasion due to its strategic importance. Strikes on the plant are part of Kyiv’s broader strategy to disrupt Russia’s military-industrial supply chain. The latest such attack took place on April 28 last year. Local authorities confirmed the attack on the facility.
