Russian troops advancing, amassing troops in east, south of Ukraine

Russian troops are advancing in Pokrovsk district, Rodynske and Krasnyi Lyman settlements in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, DeepState monitoring project reported on Friday.

The situation is also tense in Hryshyne village in Pokrovsk district in Donetsk, where Russian army units are attempting to advance and establish a foothold in the settlement, operating in small infantry groups, Ukraine’s "East" Operational Command reported on April 17. Small-arms firefights are ongoing. Heavy fighting is underway in Donetsk’s settlements of Rodynske, Muravka, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Molodetske, and Kotlyne.

In south of Ukraine, Russian troops are amassing troops and military equipment in an effort to create conditions for further advancement northward.

The command said Ukrainian units are identifying and destroying targets, preventing Russian troops from forming strike groups, with strikes taking place both in Pokrovsk and south of the city.

According to preliminary data, Russian army’s losses remain the highest in the area of responsibility of the "East" Operational Command, with 389 Russian troops eliminated over the past 24 hours. In addition, more than 2,050 drones of various types, a total of 157 units of other weapons and equipment have been destroyed or damaged by the command. Among the destroyed military equipment are MLRS; 71 vehicles; 48 pieces of specialized equipment, 6 armored personnel carriers, and 3 tanks. In Addition, 20 pieces of other artillery equipment have been destroyed or damaged.

Earlier, Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR), revealed that Russia was preparing for a fresh ground campaign in southeastern Ukraine, with the objective of seizing the entire industrial Donbas region by September.
