Russia strikes Ukraine with 1100 drones, 890 bombs in a week, cripples energy infrastructure

Russia launched more than 1100 drones and 890 bombs against Ukraine in the course of this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday.

In a statement published on Facebook Zelenskiy revealed that Russa fired over 890 guided aerial bombs and more than 50 missiles of various types, including ballistic, cruise, and even the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile, during these strikes. The Ukrainian leader noted that these strikes had no military purpose and targeted energy infrastructure and residential buildings. Zelenskiy underlined the timing of these attacks.

“They deliberately waited for freezing weather to make things worse for our people. This is deliberate, cynical Russian terror specifically against civilians. I thank our mobile fire groups that defend Ukraine from these attacks day and night, and all our other warriors from air defense units and electronic warfare units,” stressed.

Energy infrastructure crippled

Separately, posting on X, Zelenskiy said energy workers and repair crews were working to restore heat, electricity, and water supply for residents. "In many regions, the situation remains difficult after Russian strikes on our critical infrastructure. Energy workers and repair crews are working around the clock to restore electricity, heat, and water supply for people. And this is truly a monumental effort that matters greatly for our citizens - restoring normal life after constant Russian terrorist strikes. I am grateful to everyone involved," he went on saying.

It should be noted that Russia scales up its strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during winter months as a weapon against civilians. These strikes include attacks on power plants, substations, and heating facilites. Russia’s devastating attacks this week crippled the country’s energy infrastructure, leaving more than 1,000 apartment buildings without heat, Kyiv said on Sunday. Ukraine’s energy ministry said Russian army struck its power systems again on the night leading to Sunday, briefly cutting off electricity to the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
