Deputy head of Russia’s border Belgorod region was injured as a drone struck a government headquarters on Victory Day celebrated on May 9.
Sharing the CCTV video of the aftermath of the attack, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said deputy governor Alexandr Lorenz was near the building when the attack occurred. A Russian Guard officer also suffered a shrapnel wound to the thigh and is hospitalized, Gladkov said.
“An unidentified drone targeted the government building of the Belgorod region. Deputy governor Alexandr Lorenz and a national guard officier sustained injured,” the caption to the video read.
“After laying flowers at the Eternal Flame, Alexandr Alexandrovich was examined by doctors at the regional clinical hospital. He has a concussion and acoustic trauma. He will continue treatment as an outpatient,” Gladkov clarified.
There has been no official comment from Kyiv about the attack. The drone attack on Belgorode came amid the Victory Day being celebrated in Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Soviet Union’s victory over Germany in World War II. More than tweny world leaders, incuding Chinese President Xi Jinping, Serbian leader Aleksander Vucic and Slovakian President Robert Fico attend the mitary parade held in captal Moscow. Addressing the parade, Putin hailed the “special military operation” in Ukraine that was launched more than three years ago, claiming the “entire world, society and people” support it. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire deal to honor the Victory Day. Ukrainian leader described Putin’s temporary truce offer as “theatrical” and offered a one-month ceasefire instead. Zelenskiy also stressed that Ukraine could not guarantee the safety of foreign attendees during the military parade in Moscow.
