Zelenskiy urges pressure on Kremlin amid intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged the country’s Western allies to limit Russia’s military production in response to the Kremlin’s war of aggression.

Explaining the reason for putting more international pressure of Russia, Zelenskiy said: "Recently, a Russian Shaheed drone strike on Kyiv damaged the building housing the residence of the Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine. This is yet another proof that we need to significantly strengthen not only our defense against Russian terror, but also our pressure on Russia to limit its military production.”

In his nightly video address on Monday, the Ukrainian leader also touched upon sanction loopholes that are enabling Russia’s use of Shaheed drones and other missiles.

"In EU's upcoming sanctions package, it is crucial to target sanctions circumvention schemes in particular. Anyone who continues such trade with Russia must clearly understand the consequences. Peace through strength is also achieved through the strength of sanctions.”

On the same day, Zelenskiy thanked EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep for “consistently standing 100%” on Ukraine’s side throughout the war during the EU official’s fifth visit to Kyiv since the start of Russia’s invasion around three years ago.

During the visit, the two men also discussed EU-Ukraine cooperation, increasing military assistance, lifting restrictions on strikes against military targets on Russian territory, unblocking support through the European Peace Facility, and completing all procedures to provide Ukraine with USD 50 billion, in line with the G7 decision.
