Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has hailed his country’s Armed Forces for striking military targets inside Russia.
His remarks came after Ukrainian troops targeted a southern Russian airfield and hit oil and fuel depots in the Belgorod, Kursk and Rostov regions. Zelenskiy said Russia had dropped more than 600 aerial bombs on Ukraine over the past week.
“I would like to thank each of our soldiers and all those who work in our defence industry for striking Russian airfields, oil refineries and logistics,” Zelenskiy said in his daily statement on Saturday.
“Every strike that accurately responds to Russia’s bombs, that destroys Russian logistics, Russian bases, that makes it more difficult for the occupier to stay on our land. Every such strike brings the just end of the war closer,” the Ukrainian leader went on saying. The Kremlin did not respond to Ukraine’s claims about striking its airfield. However, the governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, stated on Telegram that a statute of emergency was imposed on the region.
Meanwhile, Russian Defence Ministry stated on Sunday that its Armed Forces intercepted 75 Ukrainian drones over a number of regions on the Ukrainian border and on other regions such as Krasnodar, Belgorod, Rostovy, Oryal, Kursk, Voronezh, Ryazan, Krasnodar deeper inside Russia on the night leading to August 4.
