Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has claimed that Ukraine has killed own prisoners of war during its recent drone attack in Chechnya’s Gudermes town. Kadyrov claimed, although without providing any proof, that ten Ukrainian prisoners of war were being kept at a “strategic facility” in Chechnya, including Russian University of Special Forces named after Vladimir Putin in Gudermes that was targeted by Ukrainian drones.
“Kyiv, trying to harm us, killed its own soldiers today,” Kadyrov said in post in Telegram app on Wednesday. “From now on, Ukraine must understand that such attacks only harm its own citizens,” Kadyrov stated, adding that he had ordered forces under his command to no longer take prisoners in Ukraine as a result of the attack.
Ukrainian drones struck Russian University of Special Forces in Gudermes on October 29, in the first case of Kyiv attacking Chechnya since the start of Russia’s full-fledged invasion in February 2022.
Shortly after the attack, Kadyrov said the reason why the university was attacked, is that it produced thousands of special forces that played key role in the war. The attack that was launched on Tuesday morning, caused fire on the roof of the building on the territory of the university. Kadyrov said there were no casualties during the attack and that the fire was extinguished. It should be noted that Ramzan Kadyrov has been an outspoken supporter of Putin’s war of invasion of Ukraine.
