Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has thanked Canada for military support amid Russian invasion of his country.
Addressing the Canadian Parliament on September 22, Zelenskiy also hailed the historic ties between the two countries.
Praising Ottawa for “always being on the right side of history,” Zelenskiy said: “One of the most startling qualities of your country is that justice is not an empty word for Canada.” The Ukrainian leader also praised Canada’s “extremely strong leadership” for supporting Ukraine’s accession to NATO as well as for joining international sanctions against Russia.
Addressing the joint presser, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated Canada’s unequivocal support in a joint press conference.
Zelenskiy’s speech comes as Ottawa pledged to provide Ukraine with an additional military aid worth $482m over the next three years to supply Ukraine with 50 armored vehicles. Canada will also train Ukraine’s F16 pilots.
The Ukrainian leader visited Canada following his trip to Washington where he appealed to US lawmakers on Thursday for continued military aid amid the growing weariness among Republicans to support Ukraine.
