Kyiv has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Russia’s major oil refinery in Liski city in Voronezh region near Ukrainian border.
The General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces stated on Thursday said that the army struck the refinery on the night leading to January 16, adding that the facility was used for the needs of the Russian army. The General Staff said at least three drones hit the facility in the operation carried out jointly by the Special Operations Forces and other units of Ukraine's Defense Forces.
The statement follows Russian social media reports on January 15 about a drone attack on oil refinery in Liski city that lies over 150 kilometers east of the Ukrainian border. Local residents reported series of explosions in Liski, also adding that air defence systems were activated near the local oil refinery. There were no reports of casualties, however a video footage posted on Telegram showed a strong explosion and fire at the oil refinery. Baza Telegram channel claimed the oil depot was attacked by three drones at once.
Ukraine's defense forces continuously target Russian oil refineries with drones. These include facilities both within Russia's territory and in the occupied areas of Ukraine.
