Ukrainian air forces have destroyed a Russian Orlan reconnaissance, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in eastern part of the frontline, Ukrainian media reported on Thursday.
The operation was carried out by fighters from the 14th Separate Unmanned Aerial Systems Regiment. Ukrainian air scouts intercepted the ground control point and tipped rocket artillery operators to deliver a precision strike targeting the site, according to the report. The video showing the moment of the strike has been shared by Ukrainian intelligence.
Earlier, artillerymen from the Hart border guard brigade destroyed a UAV takeoff point, fortifications, an armored personnel carrier, a mortar firing position, as well as Russian infantry in the Vovchansk direction.
Earlier, on Thursday Ukrainian air forces said it downed 37 Russian drones, including Iranian-made Shaheed drones, on Kyiv and Sumy cities. Overall, Russia launched 81 drones across Ukraine on January 30. Zelensky's chief of staff Andriy Yermak on Thursday accused Russia of launching Shaheed drones charged with shrapnel "to increase the number of civilian casualties."
A separate attack on Ukraine’s city of Sumy killed nine people and injured 13 others, including an eight-year-old girl. In the southern Odesa region on the Black Sea, officials said Russian drones targeted the port town of Izmail, one of several important Ukrainian export hubs.
