Ukraine will receive another batch of US military aid package worth $400 million amid Russia’s intensified attacks in eastern Donetsk region. The aid package will be announced “in the coming days”, the Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said on October 31.
Austin said the aid would include “artillery, air defense, armored vehicles, ammunition, and other critical weapons.” The aid package includes munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), Stinger missiles, Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) equipment and munitions. air-to-ground munitions, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, and Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers.
The latest announcement is the Biden Administration's 69th tranche of equipment to be provided from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.
Addressing a press conference together with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and their South Korean counterparts, Austin also commented on the presence of North Korean military personnel in Russia, explaining that this demonstrates “Putin’s desperation” and his intention to continue the war against Ukraine. He also touched upon the upcoming presidential election in US and Kyiv’s concerns over the possible withdrawal of aid to Ukraine under Trump’s administration.
“On the president’s direction, the United States will continue to increase security assistance to Ukraine, as will our allies and partners in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group,” Austin said.
