Ukrainian troops destroyed a rare Russian submarine B-237 "Rostov-on-Don” in Crimea’s Sevastopol port city on Saturday. The submarine belonging to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet is estimated to cost $300 million. General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement on Saturday that “the submarine sank immediately” as a result of the strike. The agency stressed that the "Rostov-on-Don" submarine’s destruction “once again proves that there is no safe place for the Russian fleet in the Ukrainian territorial waters of the Black Sea.

The General Staff also said the attack damaged a Russian S-400 air defense system. The General Staff stated that units of the missile forces, in cooperation with units of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, significantly damaged 4 launchers of the Triumph air defense system.

Kyiv also targeted a southern Russian airfield and hit oil and fuel depots in the Belgorod, Kursk and Rostov regions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Russia had dropped more than 600 aerial bombs on Ukraine over the past week.

Launched and commissioned in 2014, the B-237 “Rostov-on-Don” submarine is a modern part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. It has the capacity to fire cruise missiles at targets on land.
