Ukraine launched large-scale drone attack on southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don on the night leading to February 8.

At least five explosions were heard in the sky above Rostov-on-Don. According to Russian media reports, the attack targeted an oil pumping station in the suburbs of Chertkovo.

The regional governor Yuri Slusar said the air defence system was activated in the area and a large number of drones were downed. The debris from the drones damaged 14 apartment buildings, several administrative buildings and cars parked nearby. Local residents were evacuated.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Andriy Kovalenko, said Rostov-on-Don is considered a high-value location, home to several important military sites of the Russian army. "Rostov was attacked at night. There were explosions in the “Selmash” area, where important military sites are located. This area also hosts the deployment of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems,” Kovalenko said. Rostov-on-Don also hosts the Southern Military District headquarters of the Russian army.

Ukraine struck four Russian regions on February 8, with drones targeting specifically oil pumping station in the suburbs of Chortkovo in the Rostov region and an oil refining station in the Kumilzhensky district of the Volgograd region. Explosions also took place in Slavyansk-na-Kubani in Krasnodar region.
